Summary
The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.
In the face of the climate and nature emergency, our role is to help make people and communities resilient to a future with more frequent and more extreme flooding and erosion. We are working in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council to deliver a government major project at Ventnor. Our £300m improved coastal defence project will better protect over 3,500 homes and businesses and key infrastructure, whilst meeting our drive for low carbon solutions.
We are looking for a passionate individual to form part of a multi-disciplinary team, formed of Senior Users (this role), project managers, environment experts and our external consultants. You’ll be passionate about project delivery, enjoy engaging and liaising with our stakeholders and take a keen interest in how our projects can better fit in with the wider ambitions of our partners. Your day-to-day work ranges from being part of design meetings, organising and delivering engagement with our stakeholders all the way to helping secure external fundraising. It’s a varied role covering all aspects of project delivery both internally and externally.
We are passionate about being a high performing team but also make sure our work life balance is right. You will be given a level of flexible working that is not common in most workplaces.
The team
You’ll join our client-side Team, working alongside the local council to deliver place-making and a legacy to be proud of. We are part of our Local Operation structure with teams working across the New Forest, Hampshire and Sussex.
Our team is based on the island and our Romsey and Chichester offices. We value face to face time together as a team which involves working at these locations, plus Worthing and Portsmouth regularly.
Experience/skills required
Project management experience/qualifications desirable, but we’re more interested in someone who has some of the skills below. In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your:
Working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
Being a great influencer
Using effective written and spoken communication skills to convoy complex matters to influence and persuade
Whilst you may not have a background in flood and coastal risk management, you will have the drive to learn the technical themes related to this subject matter. You’ll also have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
