Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
The Early Years Teacher/Lead will:
Ø Assume overall responsibility for promoting excellent practice and providing high quality early years provision, including physical, emotional, social and intellectual education and care for children in the setting.
Ø Fulfil the professional responsibilities of a class teacher (see School Teachers Pay and Conditions).
Ø Meet the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards.
EYFS and Teaching
Ø Ensure that the principles and content of the Early Years Foundation Framework are understood by staff working in EYFS and put in to practice.
Ø Encourage high expectations of all children and demonstrate commitment to ensuring they can achieve their full potential.
Ø Establish and sustain a safe, welcoming, purposeful, stimulating and encouraging environment where children feel confident and secure and are able to develop and learn.
Ø Promote the use of informed observation and other strategies to monitor & record assessment of children’s activity, development and progress, using this information to inform, plan and improve practice and provision.
Ø Plan and provide safe, appropriate, child-led and adult initiated experiences, activities and play opportunities.
Ø Select, prepare and use a range of resources suitable for children’s ages, interests and abilities, taking account of diversity and promoting equality and inclusion.
Ø Actively promote and support the development of children’s language and communication skills.
Ø Promote positive behaviour, self-control and independence through using effective behaviour management strategies and developing children’s social, emotional and behavioural skills.
Ø Establish and maintain a safe environment and employ practices that promote children’s health, safety and physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Whole-school organisation, strategy and development
Ø Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s vision and values.
Ø Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
Ø Provide cover, in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach.
Ø To be a subject leader across the whole school (foundation subject).
Ø Participate in meetings/professional development opportunities at the school, which relate to the learners, curriculum or organisation of the school including break duties and assemblies.
Ø Attend and take a constructive part in staff meetings, inset days and any other school arranged training sessions.
Health, safety and discipline
Ø Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils.
Ø Maintain good order and discipline among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
Ø Act within the statutory frameworks, which set out the professional duties and responsibilities.
Professional development
Ø Take part in the school’s appraisal procedures.
Ø Take part in further training and development in order to improve own teaching and contribute to the professional development of others, where appropriate.
Communication with colleagues, other relevant professionals and stakeholders
Ø Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school.
Ø Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues.
Ø Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and carers.
Personal and professional conduct
Ø Uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school.
Ø Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality.
Ø Understand and act within the statutory frameworks setting out their professional duties and responsibilities.
Safeguarding
Ø Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies.
Ø Work with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary.
Ø Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school, raising any concerns following school protocol/procedures.
