We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

As Deputy Responsive Repairs Manager, you will support the delivery of both the responsive and void repairs services, ensuring tenants receive a high quality, efficient and customer focused service. You will lead and manage operational teams, oversee day to day performance, develop systems and processes, and support the implementation of policy and strategy across Housing Services. Working closely with contractors and key internal teams such as Asset Management, you will drive continuous improvement and ensure all activity complies with legislation, health and safety, and council procedures. You will also lead a team of staff providing advice, support and guidance.

About you:

You will bring strong technical knowledge of repairs, construction methods, Awaab’s Law and HHSRS, along with significant experience delivering high quality, good value housing services. You’ll be an effective leader, able to motivate teams through change, manage budgets, solve problems, work under pressure and make sound decisions.

Excellent communication skills are essential, enabling you to explain complex technical issues clearly to tenants, Members, MPs, contractors and colleagues. You will be flexible, committed to great customer service and confident managing projects, performance and compliance. A valid driving licence and the ability to provide out of hours support are required

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

You will join Housing Services within Wigan Council’s Places Directorate, working in a collaborative, supportive environment shaped by strong Team Wigan behaviours. The service is committed to innovation, continuous improvement and delivering excellent outcomes for tenants. You will work closely with skilled teams, contractors and partners, contributing to a high performing, customer focused repairs service and helping shape future policy, systems and processes. The role offers the chance to make a real impact on service quality and tenant experience while developing professionally within an organisation that values teamwork, accountability, compassion and doing the right thing for our communities.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community.
