SALARY: £72,702 - £80,780

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh office.

About this opportunity

Lloyds Banking Group is the UK's largest Digital, Retail, and Commercial bank. It is committed to helping Britain prosper. The group is investing £3bn to transform its products and platforms and become the bank of the future.

With 789 software systems and 26,000 servers we're servicing 80,000 colleagues, 30m+ customers, and over 14m+ online users you can be confident our IT professionals have sizeable and exciting challenges every single day.

In this role, you'll deliver highly advanced and sophisticated technical support for mainframe Db2 and its associated processes, tools, and utilities. You'll help run and maintain services according to Group standards and policies (and to agreed service levels) and will assist with the delivery of investment funded work within mainframe environments - this includes out of hours.

Additionally, you'll provide technical support (including incident and problem resolution for systems and processes in complex environments) - again this includes out of hours support.

What you'll do

  • Provide support for complex mainframe environments to tight timescales.

  • Help drive the strategy and design across the mainframe development and test estate.

  • Own and drive the zDBA technology roadmap, and work closely with stakeholders to deliver against it.

  • Implement standardisation and drive improvement initiatives in the team.

  • Work collaboratively across the wider Lab and Platform teams to develop, promote, and implement process initiatives.

  • Ensure processes, governance, and procedures are rigorously adhered to.

Why Lloyds Banking Group

We're on an exciting journey to transform our Group and the way we're shaping finance for good. We're focusing on the future, investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone. Including you!

What you'll need

  • Extensive in-depth expertise and knowledge of Db2 on z/OS.

  • Expert-level experience of performance monitoring and optimisation of Db2, including SQL tuning, buffer pool tuning, with the ability to make targeted recommendations to improve service stability and availability.

  • Expert-level experience of governing and approving DDL changes, handling schema evolution, validating impact, and ensuring alignment to change‑control processes.

  • Extensive experience of leading the resolution and troubleshooting of critical on-line systems.

  • Proven experience of communicating and translating complex technical concepts for Senior Leadership.

  • Experience of supporting junior team members, providing coaching on Db2 fundamentals, performance tuning, utilities, and operational processes.

It would be great if you also had

  • 10+ years of experience as a z/OS Db2 DBA in a financial organisation.

About working for us

Our ambition is to be the leading UK business for diversity, equity and inclusion supporting our customers, colleagues and communities and we're committed to creating an environment in which everyone can thrive, learn and develop.

We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer Initiative.

We offer reasonable workplace adjustments for colleagues with disabilities, including flexibility in office attendance, location and working patterns. And, as a Disability Confident Leader, we guarantee interviews for a fair and proportionate number of applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role with a disability, long-term health or neurodivergent condition through the Disability Confident Scheme.

We provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers. Just let us know what you need.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%

  • An annual performance-related bonus

  • Share schemes including free shares

  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping

  • 30 days' holiday, with bank holidays on top

  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies

Want to do amazing work, that's interesting and makes a difference to millions of people? Join our journey.

Our continued commitment to helping Britain prosper means that as a colleague you can make a difference to customers, businesses and communities.

Together we have a key role to play in shaping the bank of the future, whilst the scale and reach of our Group means you'll continue to have opportunities to learn, grow and develop.

We're focused on creating a values-led culture, and our approach to inclusion and diversity means that we all have the opportunity to make a real difference, together.

As part of the Group's commitments as a result of ring-fencing legislation, colleagues based in the Crown Dependencies are required to be exclusively dedicated to the non-ring-fenced bank and its subsidiaries. This means that colleagues who are based in the Crown Dependencies would not be able to undertake roles for the Ring Fenced Bank from their existing location and would need to consider relocation when applying for roles.
