What it's like to work here
Cragside, set in the stunning Northumberland countryside, is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the North East, welcoming around 250,000 visitors annually and open 363 days a year.

Reporting to the Welcome Manager, you’ll join a high-performing visitor operations team, working closely with other staff and volunteers to care for Cragside and deliver exceptional experiences.

The minibus operation is a core part of the Welcome Team which operates outdoors in a fast-paced environment where visitor numbers fluctuate throughout the day and year. Busy days can see over 1,000 visitors, rising to more than 2,000 on peak occasions. You’ll be responsible for operating our circular minibus route between the Formal Garden, Coach Park, Visitor Centre, Main Car Park and the House, as well as supporting transport for special events. Every day will bring new interactions, new challenges, and plenty of opportunities to make a real difference to our visitors.

This is a physically active role that combines safe, confident driving with excellent customer service. You’ll be a welcoming presence, particularly for visitors with mobility needs, and take pride in keeping both the vehicle and service running smoothly.

Everyone steps in whenever needed to deliver a seamless experience for our visitors. When the property gets busy, flexibility and versatility help us to perform at our best.

What you'll be doing
You’ll be responsible for operating the Cragside minibus service safely and professionally, following all property speed limits, traffic flow requirements, and safety procedures. You'll ensure the vehicle is roadworthy and presentable at the start of every day - checking fuel, tyres, lights, seating, tail lift and overall cleanliness.

Your focus will be on giving excellent customer care, greeting visitors warmly, responding to visitor queries, supporting those with mobility needs, and ensuring equal access to the service. You'll meet the highest standards of vehicle and passenger safety.

In this role, you'll communicate effectively with colleagues via on‑board radio to support the smooth running of the service. You'll also assist visitors on and off the vehicle, including manoeuvring wheelchairs onto the tail lift. Importantly, you'll uphold the Trust’s safety, security, and emergency procedures, maintaining high standards of presentation and professionalism.

No two days will be the same — you’ll be an essential part of keeping Cragside moving.
