Aldern House, Baslow Rd, Bakewell
£26,824 to £28,142 per annum (pro rata)
The Role
We are looking for a Wildfire Engagement Officer to help us work in partnership with the Eastern Moors Partnership, acting as a presence on the eastern edges of the Peak District National Park to reduce and report fire risk and engage visitors and local stakeholders to increase wildfire awareness.
In the role, you will be responsible for carrying out wildfire patrols, monitoring and reporting issues, some practical work, e.g. installing fire signage, working with volunteers, and liaising with local stakeholders. You will also create mobile content for social media, including videos, photos, and pieces to camera to raise awareness of your role and looking after the National Park.
The post holder will be required to work 50% of weekends and in the evenings up to 10pm when there is a high fire risk.
This is a fixed-term post until the 31st October 2026.
About You
You will need to be able to communicate effectively with the public and a range of stakeholders, including landowners, the local community, and visitors. You will have experience of engaging with members of the public, sometimes in difficult circumstances, and have conflict awareness training or experience. You will have fell and moorland navigation experience and training, along with the ability to identify moorland vegetation types and an understanding of designations and access legislation (SSSI, CROW, etc.). You will be able and willing to work alone and will have experience and knowledge of health and safety and safeguarding policies and procedures. You will also have the ability and willingness to create social media content using a mobile phone.
About Us
The Peak District National Park was the first of Britain’s 15 national parks and is still enjoyed by millions, looking for both adventure and a breathing space to escape. It is also the most accessible due to its proximity to four major cities of the UK and its 38,000 residents. We recognise the importance of our national park, and our job is to speak up and care for the Peak District National Park for all to enjoy forever.
