You will work right at the centre of the Water Regulation Operations Catchment Services department, supporting our Deputy Director to ensure they have clear view across the department and co-ordinate across our teams to make sure we deliver what will make the most difference. The role is a mix of organisational business support, and co-ordinating and responding to cross-cutting technical requests.



You will:

Work closely with the Deputy Director to form a clear oversight of our activities, priorities, pressures and risks; co-ordinating our teams and work to make sure we achieve our outcomes.
Develop, track and assure the department business plan including finance, health, safety and wellbeing and EDI.
Lead the programme of leadership meetings and communications for the department.
Identify strategic decisions and suitable governance routes, making the most of engagement and communication opportunities.
Identify resource and recruitment needs across the department.
Develop a Strategic Workforce Plan for the department, including for Water Regulation a support strategy on business critical roles for water regulation including a business case for market forces to be applied to certain technical roles
Lead cross-cutting responses related your department, for example responses to Defra requests, developments and inputs to reviews such as the Independent Water Commissions, correspondence and communications.
Form good relationships with those you will work closely with, including the leadership teams, and business and finance teams.
You may lead a small team including administrative officers who provide support across your department
Have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided

The team

Water Regulation and Operations Catchment Services are national, dispersed teams which support delivery, influences policy and secure resources for regulation of the water industry, water planning and wider water sector. We provide expertise in water and environmental planning, water company account management, water regulation and data analysis

This position will give you a view of water planning and regulation policy, strategic developments and operational delivery across the organisation.

Experience/skills required

Experience of organising workstreams, identifying objectives, priorities and resource requirements, and risks, issues, pressures, such as gained though programme and project management experience.
Excellent communication and influencing skills – you’ll be able to present complex information clearly and succinctly to enable decisions to be made.
An ability to respond to tight deadlines, prioritise, and work quickly and accurately to ensure tasks and actions are completed.
An ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with dispersed customers internally and externally.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment. Water regulation is an organisational and political priority, and things can change at pace.
An ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
