Summary

We are seeking a Painter and Decorator to be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paints and finishes, hanging wallpaper, and delivering high-quality decorative work in residential and commercial environments. The role involves maintaining safe working practices, ensuring excellent attention to detail, and completing projects to professional standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare interior and exterior surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling, repairing cracks, and applying primer.
2. Apply paint, varnish, stains, and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
3. Remove old paint, wallpaper, or finishes and ensure surfaces are ready for decoration.
4. Measure, cut, and hang wallpaper and specialist wall coverings where required.
5. Mix and match colours accurately according to job specifications.
6. Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in good condition and ensure safe operation.
7. Comply with health and safety regulations, including proper PPE use and safe ladder/scaffold handling.
8. Deliver work to high-quality standards, ensuring smooth finishes and completing touch-ups as needed.
9. Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and team members regarding progress and requirements.
10. Keep work areas clean, organised, and safe throughout the project.

Skills
• Strong practical ability in painting, decorating, and finishing techniques.

• Ability to prepare surfaces professionally and use a range of tools (brushes, rollers, sprayers).
• Good understanding of paints, coatings, colour mixing, and application methods.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Good communication skills when dealing with clients and colleagues.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including safe handling of equipment and materials.
• Physical fitness to perform manual tasks, work at heights, and operate tools safely.
Qualifications:

• NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Painting and Decorating (preferred).
• Relevant City & Guilds certification (if applicable).
• CSCS card (preferred for construction site work).
• Equivalent practical experience or trade training will also be considered.

Experience:
• Prior experience working as a painter and decorator, ideally 1–2 years.
• Experience preparing surfaces, applying finishes, and using various painting tools.
• Experience working on residential, commercial, or construction projects.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver consistent, high-quality work.
• Experience working safely with ladders, scaffold towers, and manual tools.
