ABOUT THE POST

0.6 FTE / 21 Hours (Weekly)

The Department of Student Services wishes to appoint an experienced counsellor to work in its busy counselling service, providing time limited counselling to our students, and supervision to our volunteer counsellors when the placement provision is open.

The post-holder will work with the counselling service manager and other staff in the Department of Student Services and across the University, to improve access and engagement, especially from marginalised groups. They should help to develop an innovative and responsive service to students and the University as a whole, helping students to transform their lives and maximise their potential.

The post-holder will assume specific responsibility for activities aimed at improving and widening engagement with the counselling service. This will include the provision of a drop-in service, offered to students remotely and in person, attendance at relevant events to boost the profile of the counselling service within the university, creative approaches to raising awareness and destigmatising counselling, collaboration with colleagues in the counselling team, Student’s Union, Partnerships department, key contacts in partner institutions, and others, where necessary. The post-holder will also provide relevant guidance and consultation to other counselling service staff, Student Services front office staff, Schools and other PSDs when required. The post-holder will also develop and maintain effective working relationships with external health services and specialist partner organisations in order to support students with complex and multiple needs, and to help streamline access to appropriate, tailored support pathways beyond the university. They will take a data-informed approach to the design and delivery of workshops, groups and events, using service data and emerging trends to shape targeted activity.

This post will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
