Summary

Sous Chef

An exciting opportunity for a skilled Sous Chef to support a growing café kitchen operation, delivering high-quality, seasonal food in a vibrant visitor destination while maintaining excellent service standards.

SALARY: £29,500 per annum pro rata

LOCATION: Wakefield, West Yorkshire, Yorkshire and the Humber

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: Hours negotiable. Minimum of 32 hours up to 37 hours per week on varying days including weekends. Usual café operation is 10am – 5pm (4pm during winter) with occasional evenings and late nights


JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Sous Chef to join a successful and expanding in-house café operation supporting a leading cultural venue. This role plays a vital part in delivering a high-quality food and drink offer that enhances the overall visitor experience.

As a Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to support daily kitchen operations, contribute to menu development, and ensure consistently high standards during service, events, and occasional evening functions.

The Sous Chef will take pride in preparing lunch-focused dishes, supporting a smooth-running service, and contributing creative ideas to continually improve the seasonal and sustainable food offer.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Sous Chef include:

• Supporting Kitchen Operations: Assisting the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen

• Food Preparation and Service: Preparing and delivering high-quality dishes during café service and events

• Menu Development: Contributing creative ideas to seasonal and sustainable menus

• Service Leadership: Helping to maintain a smooth, efficient, and professional kitchen service

• Event Catering: Supporting catered public and private events, including occasional evenings

• Food Quality Standards: Ensuring consistency, presentation, and quality across all dishes

• Team Collaboration: Working collaboratively with kitchen colleagues to maintain high standards

• Health and Safety Compliance: Supporting food hygiene, health and safety, and kitchen best practice


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Previous experience in a professional kitchen environment

• A background in preparing fresh, lunch-focused dishes

• Proven experience of supporting high-quality food service

• Strong teamwork and communication skills

• A passion for seasonal, sustainable food and local suppliers

• The ability to work flexibly, including weekends and occasional evenings

• A proactive and positive approach to kitchen operations
