About the Client
London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Housing & Growth Group is committed to delivering high‑quality, resident‑focused housing services. The Housing Options & Support team plays a vital role in preventing homelessness, supporting vulnerable households, and ensuring residents receive timely, effective intervention.

This assignment sits within the organisational structure:
Strategic Place > Housing > Housing Options & Support

The Role
The council is launching a new pilot project, Homewise, designed to provide rapid, on‑the‑ground support to households facing eviction. As a Housing Options & Assessment Officer, you will work alongside a Social Worker to conduct same‑day home visits to residents at risk of homelessness.

This is a responsive, field‑based role, requiring flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently across the borough.

Key Responsibilities
Carry out urgent home visits to households facing eviction as part of the Homewise pilot.

Assess housing needs and risks during home visits, ensuring early intervention to prevent homelessness.

Work collaboratively with a Social Worker to support residents in crisis situations.

Provide advice, guidance, and practical support to help residents sustain their accommodation or plan a safe, managed move.

Maintain accurate case notes, assessments, and documentation in line with council procedures.

Liaise with landlords, support services, internal teams, and external agencies as required.

Respond to same‑day referrals and travel across the borough at short notice.

Candidate Requirements
Experience in Housing Options, homelessness prevention, or a similar frontline housing role.

Strong understanding of housing legislation, eviction processes, and homelessness duties.

Ability to conduct home visits and work confidently in residents’ homes.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support vulnerable households.

Full UK driving licence and access to transport is highly desirable due to borough‑wide travel.

Ability to work responsively, manage urgent cases, and adapt to changing priorities.

Comfortable working both independently in the field and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
