Summary


JOB SUMMARY

As part of the Provide multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive paediatric occupational therapy service for children, from birth to nineteen years of age, who present with developmental concerns.



To work with children and their families in their homes, nurseries, schools and any other appropriate setting as well as within the children’s centre.



To contribute to and participate in the organisation, planning and development of the occupational therapy service to this care group.



To participate in setting the standards of care and monitoring the quality of service and referral/waiting times.



To own a car and hold a full clean driving licence and appropriate insurance.
• To gain consent and undertake occupational therapy assessment, clinically diagnose, formulate and implement treatment plans using specialist knowledge and experience.
• Knowledge of a wide range of paediatric conditions and treatment modalities to interpret and analyse clinical facts using advanced clinical reasoning and problem solving skills.
• To interpret non-clinical facts based on a risk assessment incorporating the constant changes encountered in each individual’s circumstances.
• To work in any community clinics, homes, schools, nurseries in line with service requirements. To assist work in other regions where tender process has been won
• To provide hands on treatment. Demonstrate highly developed dexterity, hand-eye co-ordination, precision and palpatory senses for the assessment and therapeutic handling of patients to facilitate movement and the development of physical skills. To be able to present treatment programmes through age and developmentally appropriate play and approaches.
• To have good knowledge and understanding of children’s services and processes as provided by Health, Education, Social Care and the Voluntary Sector.
• To assess and arrange for the provision of specialist aids and equipment e.g. postural seating and splinting.
• To undertake risk assessments for children with regard to manual handling and share with parents/carers and school/nursery.
