Summary
Main Duties and Responsibilities The post-holder will be expected to undertake the full range of duties associated with working as a General Practitioner in primary care, including but not limited to the following: Clinical Care Provide high-quality, patient-centred clinical care through face-to-face consultations, telephone and video appointments, and home visits where appropriate. Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed, and long-term conditions. Make autonomous, evidence-based clinical decisions for patients who are self-referred or referred by other healthcare professionals or external agencies. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness, promoting early intervention and prevention. Develop, implement, and review individualised care plans in line with current clinical guidelines and best practice. Provide health promotion, lifestyle advice, and preventative care tailored to individual patient needs. Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, community services, and other healthcare professionals when clinically indicated. Prescribing and Medicines Management Issue acute and repeat prescriptions using the electronic prescribing system, avoiding handwritten prescriptions wherever possible. Review, check, and authorise repeat prescriptions in a timely manner, responding to associated patient and pharmacy queries. Prescribe safely and cost-effectively in line with the practice formulary, national guidance, and local prescribing policies, using generic medications where appropriate. Documentation, Governance, and Quality Maintain clear, accurate, and contemporaneous clinical records in accordance with professional, legal, and organisational standards. Ensure accurate clinical coding and data recording. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects. Recognise personal limitations, seek senior advice when appropriate, and engage fully with supervision and mentorship arrangements. Salary & Funding This role is is offered on a sessional basis. A standard clinical session is 4 hours Structured as 3 Hour Clinic of 16 patients (14x10min appts and 2x20min appts) 1 Hour of Clinical Administration Full-Time Equivalent Salary: £115,000 per annum for a 40-hour week Equivalent to £11,500 per session (annualised) Preferred Working Pattern: 4 days per week / 8 sessions £92,000 per annum gross for 32 hours per week Additional Benefits Annual Leave: 40 days FTE 30 working days 8 bank holidays 2 NHS additional days Study Leave: 5 days FTE per annum Probation Period: 6 months (reflecting the needs of newly qualified and early-career GPs) Supportive induction, mentorship, and professional development environment.
