Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a small friendly team providing professional support to the Council's decision-making processes, Elections and Local Councillors, in a varied and interesting role.
We are seeking a highly motivated and professional person with strong inter-personal skills to support the Council's decision-making, Elections and governance arrangements, working with Members and senior officers.
Your role will be to provide administrative support to assist the team to support Committees, Elections and Referenda and related services, including civic related services, occasional collection and delivery of internal mail across the Council estate, petty cash and invoicing. You will assist the Democratic Services Team to work collaboratively across the whole organisation, with Elected Members, all levels of staff and with external partners and other organisations.
A background in the democratic services in local authorities or a similar role would be an advantage but not essential. You will also have the ability to work to tight deadlines and possess excellent communication and IT skills.
The post holder will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends to support the Democratic Services functions, including Civic events, although in the main hours will be worked flexibly Monday to Friday in agreement with the Manager.
During key periods, particularly during the Annual Canvass and elections, the post holder will be required to assist with tasks that require the manual handing, movement, set up and set down of equipment and paperwork.
The post has been designated as a 'Flexible office based worker' and the post holder will be required to attend the office at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk in accordance with business needs of the service, particularly for specific election work, Mayoral/Civic events, team meetings, catch up meetings and training that isn't being conducted by way of remote meeting software.
We pride ourselves on our friendliness and being a good employer with a range of benefits and employment terms and conditions to suit you. A competitive salary, generous annual leave entitlement, the opportunity for hybrid working, Local Government Pension Scheme, work life balance policies, and support for your personal development are just some of the benefits we offer.
