Summary
The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.
As Asset Management Team Leader for South Somerset, you’ll be accountable for making sure our flood defences are working as effectively as possible. The patch covers a large area, from Minehead to Bridgwater on the coast and as far inland as the Dorset border. You will be in charge of hundreds of tidal and fluvial assets, including pumping stations, sluices, weirs, tidal doors and a network of riverbanks and sea walls.
This is a key role and as a motivated leader you’ll lead a team of around 12 people and work closely with stakeholders across the area to deliver the best possible flood defence and environmental enhancement. You’ll also form part of the wider area leadership group and work closely with the field teams and biodiversity teams among others.
The tasks and challenges are varied, including prioritising asset investment, directing the maintenance and operation programme, preparing for and responding to incidents and communicating and engaging with customers.
If you want to expand or further develop your leadership skills or you’re seeking a new role in leadership and believe you have the capabilities to make a great leader, then this is the role for you.
The team
You’ll join our Asset Management Team, which is part of the Area Operations department.
The team consists of an experienced and skilled group of asset managers, engineers, data specialists and customer engagement advisors.
Experience/skills required
In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your:
Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
Experience of and a passion for leading and developing people.
Proven ability to effectively prioritise competing pressures and manage heavy workload in an ambiguous environment.
Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with different audiences.
Comfortable working with a range of data and systems.
Knowledge of asset management/engineering in the water sector is desirable, but not essential.
You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
