Our client, a well-established plastics and moulding manufacturing business, is looking to recruit an experienced Design Engineer to join their Sales-based technical team. This is a key role supporting customers, suppliers, and internal teams across tooling, fixtures, and new product introduction projects.
The Design Engineer Role
Reporting to the Head of Sales / Technical & Commercial Manager, the Design Engineer will provide technical support across tooling and fixture design, customer DFM input, and project pricing, while working closely with Sales, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing teams.
Design Engineer Key Responsibilities
• Design and modify jigs, fixtures, and tooling CAD, using Autodesk PowerShape (training available if required).
• Provide DFM (Design for Manufacture) support for existing products and new customer enquiries.
• Support the Sales team with tooling, fixture, and piece price costing for both new and existing projects.
• Assist the NPI (New Product Introduction) team with technical activities as required.
• Liaise with customers and suppliers to ensure clear technical communication and efficient project delivery.
• Oversee the manufacture of tooling, jigs, and fixtures to ensure they meet internal standards.
• Produce and maintain timing plans, providing weekly project updates to customers.
• Ensure detailed and accurate specifications are available to support process and procedure development.
• Work closely with Production and Quality teams to drive continuous process improvements.
• Coordinate with internal departments including Production, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Sales to support project administration.
Design Engineer Skills & Experience Required
• Proven ability to read and interpret technical component and tooling drawings.
• Experience using CAD software; PowerShape experience is advantageous.
• Strong planning, organisation, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office packages.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work on own initiative.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
