Summary

Are you ready to step away from the traditional classroom and make a real-world impact? Do you have the strength of character to mentor students who have been misunderstood by the system? Could your practical knowledge of Science be the key to unlocking a young person's future?

Randstad Education is seeking a resilient and engaging Science Instructor to join a dynamic Alternative Provision in Birmingham. This role is perfect for a subject specialist or an experienced educator who thrives in non-traditional settings, focusing on hands-on learning and emotional support.

The Role

As an Instructor in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), your focus is on engagement and practical application. You will be responsible for:

  • Leading Science Sessions: Delivering practical, high-interest Science lessons to small groups of students (KS3/KS4).

  • Specialist Support: Managing complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs with patience and empathy.

  • Behavioural Mentoring: Using de-escalation techniques and building rapport to maintain a positive learning environment.

  • Adaptability: Tailoring the curriculum to meet the specific Special Educational Needs (SEN) of each learner.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • UK Experience: You must have a solid background of working or instructing within the UK education or youth sector.

  • Strong SEN Experience: Proven experience supporting students with SEMH, ASD, or challenging behaviours is essential.

  • Subject Expertise: A strong command of Science (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics) and the ability to convey it simply and effectively.

  • Passion for Inclusion: A genuine desire to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people in Birmingham.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to move beyond "teaching to the test." In this Alternative Provision, you will have the autonomy to inspire students through practical discovery, working within a tight-knit team dedicated to social and academic progress.
