Crynodeb
Purpose of Role
To provide professional electrical installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair services across care home facilities, ensuring resident safety, regulatory compliance, and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Installation & Upgrades
Install, modify, and upgrade electrical systems including circuits, lighting, power outlets, and fire alarm systems.
Lay, bend, and connect cables according to technical specifications and wiring diagrams.
Ensure all installations meet BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and health and safety standards.
Maintenance & Repairs
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical faults in systems, wiring, and equipment.
Replace defective components promptly to maintain safety and operational standards.
Conduct planned and emergency maintenance to minimize downtime and disruption to residents.
Testing & Compliance
Perform regular electrical inspections, testing, and certification, including PAT testing and fixed wiring inspections.
Maintain detailed records of all electrical work for compliance and regulatory audits.
Ensure all work meets current UK wiring and safety regulations.
Planning & Documentation
Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and building plans.
Plan tasks to ensure minimal disruption to residents and staff.
Provide reports and documentation for the Maintenance Manager and regulatory inspections.
Health & Safety
Follow health and safety procedures, infection control, and safeguarding requirements.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Report any electrical hazards or risks immediately to management.
Collaboration & Communication
Coordinate with care home management and staff to schedule maintenance works.
Liaise with external contractors on specialist projects when required.
Essential Qualifications
Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related discipline (HNC/HND accepted with strong experience)
Knowledge and application of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
Desirable Qualifications
NVQ or equivalent Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment, or active progression
Inspection & Testing qualification
Professional registration (EngTech / IEng / CEng or working towards)
Previous experience in nursing homes or healthcare facilities
PAT testing qualification
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, and wiring standards
Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical diagrams and specifications
Skilled in testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong communication and collaboration abilities
