Summary

JOB TITLE: Advocacy and Welfare Benefits Officer

LOCATION: Office based Age UK Northumberland (The Round House)

HOURS: 37.5 hours pw

CONTRACT: Permanent

SALARY: £27,000 pa

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Advocate Lead

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Delivering Advocacy and Welfare Benefits support to clients.

PURPOSE: To deliver independent case advocacy and welfare benefits advice and support for older people across Northumberland.

MAIN DUTIES:
1. To be an active member of the Charitable Services team
2. To deliver a person-centered service covering welfare rights and advocacy support.
3. To carry out home visits, outreach appointments, deal with telephone enquiries and appointments in house.
4. To provide independent case advocacy.
5. To act on behalf of and with permission of clients, including correspondence, filling in forms and seeking information from third parties.
6. To manage own caseload with minimal supervision and work in close partnership with other agencies that provide information and advice.
7. To assist in supervising and training a team of volunteers as and when required.
8. To maintain Charity Log database; keep full and accurate records of work done including case records and statistics, providing reports as required.
9. To assist the organisation to attain all organisational Quality Standards including Age UK Charity Quality Standard.
10. To ensure good customer relations and customer experience are kept at all times.
11. To keep up to date with legislation, services and benefits, ensuring that clients are aware of local and national services, and are enabled to maximise their income and are aware of their rights.
12. To develop and maintain electronic records.
13. To ensure that all relevant monitoring and evaluation of service is carried out efficiently and comprehensively.
14. To undertake training as necessary.
15. To ensure that the organisation’s Equal Opportunities policies, principles and practices are observed and implemented throughout service delivery.
16. To abide by all other policies and procedures of Age UK Northumberland.
17. To undertake any other duties as delegated.

OTHER RELEVANT FACTORS
• Ability to work using your own initiative with a flexible approach.
• Holder of a current full driving licence and access to a car.
• Essential - 3 years' in-depth benefit casework and/or Advocacy/Social Work experience.
