Summary

In this role you will:
• Underwrite higher mandate/technical applications to offer, within our risk appetite, lending policy and agreed service standards.
• Offer mortgages to approved borrowers, within assigned higher mandate level and agreed service standards.
• Refer mortgage applications which fall outside of criteria through out-of-scope lending process as appropriate, monitoring through to resolution.
• Communicate with intermediaries to handle objections and provide objective feedback on questions.
• Identify any potentially fraudulent activity and escalate any concerns to Senior Management, Compliance and Risk departments immediately.
• Maintaining the business rules engine, in line with the control process.
• Make recommendations to Senior Management and Committees, including identifying improvements to lending policy, underwriting processes and procedures; Completing underwriting analysis with assessment of current position/inherent risks, detailed assessment of new risks and potential mitigants and requirements to administer.
• Supporting the Underwriting Lead to foster a high performance culture, through coaching/upskilling team members to provide the benefit of your experience, by managing escalations and resolving technical queries from the team and by playing an active role in ongoing key messages, daily plans and performance management.

What you will bring:
• CeMap level 3 qualified (desirable).
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience of higher mandated mortgage underwriting within a UK financial operation is essential.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Senior Residential Underwriting position, with proven hands-on experience of assessing and underwriting niche lending and bespoke priced residential loans.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain productivity and quality on own initiative.
• Analytical, with sound judgement and solid decision-making skills.
