Summary

We are looking for a Label Room Operative to join our team in Wisbech, PE13 2RN.

Pay rates and typical working hours:

  • Shift - Wednesday/Thursday-Saturday shift, working 7am-7pm.
  • The pay rate during training is £13.60 per hour, increasing to £14.60 per hour once training is completed.

We are looking for a candidate who can be trained for the Label Room Operative role and who can also be multiskilled to support the Line Leader position.
Key Responsibilities

Label Room Responsibilities:

  • Create, print, verify, and issue labels for all production lines according to work orders and specifications.
  • Ensure labels meet customer, legal, and compliance requirements (e.g., allergens, batch codes, product descriptions, dates).
  • Maintain strict label traceability and documentation at all times.
    Monitor label inventory levels; order and replenish supplies where needed.
  • Set up and operate label‑printing equipment, reporting faults or issues promptly.
  • Maintain an organised, clean, and secure label room in line with audit and food safety standards.
  • Carry out regular accuracy checks to ensure the correct labels are used for each product.
  • Support investigations into label‑related errors and assist with corrective actions.
    Lead, motivate, and supervise the production line team to achieve output, quality, and efficiency targets.
  • Allocate daily tasks to team members, ensuring correct staffing and skill coverage.
  • Complete start‑up checks, ensure equipment is set correctly, and escalate issues as required.
  • Oversee the smooth running of the production line and resolve minor issues promptly.
  • Ensure all products meet quality, safety, and customer specifications.
  • Accurately complete all relevant paperwork (batch records, waste logs, downtime reports, etc.).
  • Train new operatives on processes, safety standards, and quality expectations.
  • Enforce health & safety procedures, including PPE, manual handling, and hygiene rules.
  • Monitor stock usage on the line and report any shortages.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and suggest process improvements.


Key Skills & Competencies:

  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong leadership and team‑coordination skills.
  • Good organisational and time‑management abilities.
  • Effective communication with production, QA, engineering, and management teams.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office, label software, scanners).
  • Understanding of food safety, allergen control, and traceability (where applicable).
  • Proactive, problem‑solving mindset with a hands‑on approach.


Experience & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, or food environment (preferred).
  • Experience in operating or managing label systems (desirable).
  • Previous line leader or team‑leading experience (advantageous).
