Devonshire Road Primary School | Bolton, North-West England

Salary: £28,142 to £31,022 per annum (Grade E; SCP 1117)

Working Pattern:
We offer two working pattern options for this role, which will be discussed with candidates during the interview stage. You are not required to state your preferred working pattern in your application, as this will not affect the shortlisting process. We are committed to ensuring that candidate preferences do not influence the selection of applicants.

Option 1: Monday to Thursday 7:30am to 4:00pm; Friday 7:30am to 3:30pm (one hour for lunch each day) Option 2: Monday to Thursday 7:am to 12:00pm and 3:00pm to 5:30pm; Friday 7:00am to 11:30am and 3:00pm to 5:30pm.

About Devonshire Road Primary School

Located in the heart of Bolton, Devonshire Road Primary School is a two-form entry-maintained school educating children aged 4 to 11. Rated Good by Ofsted in 2022 with an Outstanding judgement for Personal Development, we are proud of our inclusive, nurturing atmosphere where pupils feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.

About the Role

As Site Manager, you will be the backbone of our school’s day-to-day operations, ensuring that our buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors. Your expertise in maintenance, health and safety, and facilities management will be essential to the smooth running of the school.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of school buildings and grounds, responding promptly to emergencies
  • Managing contractors and external services such as cleaning and grounds maintenance to secure best value and quality
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, fire safety, and risk assessments
  • Managing, supervising and supporting the cleaning team, including scheduling and overtime management
  • Overseeing security systems, including alarms and key-holder responsibilities
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the site
  • Supporting the school’s commitment to safeguarding and a safe learning environment
  • Transporting children in a mini-bus (training provided).

About You

You will be a proactive, dependable professional with practical skills in building maintenance, joinery, plumbing, or a related trade. Your knowledge of health and safety legislation, fire regulations, and site security will help you maintain a safe and efficient environment.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Would enjoy working in a diverse, multicultural community
  • Thrives in a busy, dynamic environment and can manage multiple tasks with attention to detail
  • Has experience working in a similar setting and understands the importance of safeguarding children
  • Demonstrates leadership in managing contractors and cleaners with a collaborative, supportive approach
  • Communicates with a range of people appropriately
  • Is flexible and willing to work outside normal hours when needed, including evenings and weekends
  • Committed to supporting the school budget by looking for cost-effective building and maintenance solutions
  • Clean driving licence
