Summary

Millfield School is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Co-curricular Drama Lead to join its Dance and Drama Department. Working closely with the Director of Dance and Drama, you will deliver and develop a high-quality co-curricular drama programme that supports both academic and enrichment provision and inspires students of all abilities.

You will oversee the day-to-day running of the co-curricular drama programme, including planning and delivering skills sessions and clubs, monitoring student engagement, and leading rehearsals and meetings. A central part of the role is directing, producing or co-directing school productions in line with the department’s schedule, including Senior and Junior Plays, the Senior Musical, showcase events, National Theatre Connections and small cast productions. You will also provide rehearsal support, coaching and audition preparation, including guidance for drama school, university and youth theatre applications.

The role includes organising and supporting departmental performance events, promoting the drama programme through marketing and social media, and contributing to the department’s internal and external profile. You will support GCSE and A-level Drama rehearsals and performance work, assist with drama-based Shakespeare teaching in Year 9, and offer one-to-one intervention where required. You will also act as Course Lead or Co-Course Lead for Drama Holiday Courses delivered through Millfield Enterprises, involving up to two weeks’ work outside term time.

Applicants should have experience working with young people and a background in theatre and/or directing. An undergraduate degree in Drama and Theatre, or equivalent professional experience, is essential, with teaching or drama coaching experience desirable.

This is a permanent post working 39 hours per week during term time plus four weeks outside term time. Working hours are 8.30am–6.00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 8.30am–1.30pm on Wednesday, with some evening and weekend work required. The salary is £33,749.92 per annum (inclusive of holiday pay), with a generous benefits package.
