Summary

The Opportunity
Our client - a modern and progressive multi office law firm and part of a Fortune 500 global listed company - are seeking an accomplished, senior lawyer—either already operating at Partner level or an enthusiastic senior lawyer ready for promotion—to join and help lead a highly regarded Crime and Regulatory team based in Manchester.

This role offers a genuine opportunity to shape strategy, grow the practice, and play a key leadership role within the firm.

The Work
The team advises on the full spectrum of business crime and regulatory matters, including:

- Inquests and public inquiries
- Professional discipline
- Gross misconduct investigations in policing
- Health, safety, licensing, and environmental matters
- Entity regulation, with particular emphasis on Ofsted and CQC

The Role
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for both strategic development and day-to-day legal delivery. You will manage a varied caseload, act as lead contact on complex matters, and supervise and mentor junior lawyers within the team. You will also play a central role in shaping the future direction, growth, and market profile of the crime and regulatory practice.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the leadership and management of the Crime & Regulatory team
- Contribute to the strategic direction, development, and growth of the practice
- Manage, strengthen, and develop internal referrer relationships, corporate clients, and external business partners
- Take a proactive role in business development and winning new work
- Provide contentious and non-contentious advice to businesses and individuals in both insured and uninsured matters
- Supervise, mentor, and develop junior lawyers within the team
- Act as a senior decision-maker on complex and high-risk matters
- Carry out general management responsibilities including governance, compliance, supplier, and contract management
- Maintain budgetary, financial, and profitability control, including managing personal billing and financial KPIs
- Support the firm’s advice line and hub services, ensuring quality and consistency of crime and regulatory advice
- Lead on the team’s strategic development, marketing, and profile-raising activities, including website content, publications, communications, and PR

What You Will Bring

- Significant expertise in more than one core crime and regulatory practice area
- Possess proven management and leadership experience
- Understand and ideally have experience working with legal expenses insurance and general insurance referrals
- Demonstrate technical excellence and strong commercial judgement
- Deliver high-quality, pragmatic, and commercially focused advice
- Have strong client relationship management and practice development experience
- Demonstrate a successful track record in business development, with the ability to grow and bring new work into the department
- Have a sound understanding of legal and insurance relationships, particularly in the context of liability insurance
