Summary
Working in our Learning Support Base, you will provide a complementary service to teachers and pastoral staff, addressing the needs of students who require help in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential.
You will work with a range of students but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages. You will work with others on our learning support and pastoral team discussing and delivering short-term support programmes.
You could cover a variety of issues, ranging from punctuality, absence, challenging or abusive behaviour, to working with able and gifted learners who are experiencing difficulties.
Responsibilities
Your tasks will include:
helping students who are underperforming in their subjects, either on a one-to-one basis outside the classroom or in a small group within the Learning Support Base;
implementing strategies and supporting students in self-esteem and confidence-building activities;
listening to and helping students resolve a range of issues that are creating barriers to learning;
monitoring attendance and punctuality of students;
providing group activities such as anger management classes;
maintaining accurate records and preparing written reports and evaluations;
provide ELSA support for identified students;
working in partnership with parents to discuss issues and their potential resolutions
attend external agency meetings as directed
