Salary range Band 6 (£34,434) Band 8 (£42,839) based upon 2025/26 salary scales & dependent on experience / qualifications etc.

Working hours 36.25 per week

About the Role
Trafford’s Private Sector Housing Team have an exciting vacancy for a Housing Enforcement Officer to join the team on a 1-year fixed term contract. The team currently consists of 1 Environmental Health Officer, 3 Housing Enforcement Officers and 1 Trainee Housing Standards Enforcement Officer, who work to support the Team Leader in enforcing a wide range of legislative requirements related to private sector housing. This includes responding to complaints about poor housing conditions, inspecting private sector housing to assess potential hazards and carrying out follow up work or enforcement action to bring properties to current standards. In addition, the team license houses in multiple occupation, respond to reports of empty properties and are preparing for the implementation of the Renters Rights Act 2025.

Band 6
- Educated to minimum A Level standard or equivalent
- Minimum of 12 months’ experience working in a housing related field
- Specialist knowledge relevant to specific areas work (e.g. housing standards)
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels (verbal and written) with a variety of people from a range of backgrounds using engaging communication and influencing styles with colleagues, managers and members of the public and communicating to customers in a clear and
sensitive manner
Band 7 (inclusive of above)
- Degree level qualification in Environmental Health / Housing (or similar)
- Certificate of competency in the application of HHSRS (Housing Health & Safety Rating System)
- Demonstrable experience in enforcement of private sector housing
- Ability to assess appropriate method of enforcement action
Band 8 (inclusive of above)
- Significant experience in enforcement of private sector housing
- Ability to motivate and supervise colleagues, sharing knowledge and learning with trainees/newly qualified colleagues

You will be in possession of a current driving license and provide a serviceable car for use in connection with the duties required.
Flexibility to carry out duties outside normal working hours as may be required by the nature of the service.
Willing and able to travel to any administrative site within the Borough as required.
