Summary

Hours -11 hours per week, £12.71 per hour
Days of Working - Wednesdays 9:30am to 3pm, Thursdays 9:30am to 3pm with overtime needed (Mondays and Tuesdays) when other driver/escort is on leave.

Summary
Teams and Bensham Community Care (Charity Number 1122735) specialises in supporting older people in Gateshead to age well and lead long, happy and healthy lives. Our minibus drivers/escort share the responsibility of helping vulnerable older people to safely travel to and from our centre so that they can stay social and connected.

The key roles of this post will include:
•When driving - To transport older people from home, to our centre, and back again
•When escorting - To accompany the driver and collect attendees from their homes, checking that they have everything they need and have locked their homes before leaving.
•Escort older people on and off the minibus, ensuring seatbelts are fastened and unfastened safely
•To ensure that wheelchair users are safely transported either from their chair, onto the bus, or by ensuring that their wheelchair is securely clamped into position in the designated area
•To assist attendees on and off the bus and into the centre, helping to carry any belongings if necessary
•To deliver hot meals to older people in the local community at lunch times
•To assist generally at the centre in between times of transport including serving lunches, making refreshments, washing dishes and helping with activities
•On the return journey home, to ensure that each member is escorted to their door and safely into their own home
•To ensure the minibus is clean and tidy.
•When required, to collect and return the minibus from and to the depot when needed and be responsible for the safety/road worthiness of the vehicle. You must be aware of health and safety regulations to assess risks relating to driving the minibus and transporting vulnerable older people.

•Motivated and able to work as part of a team, liaising with other staff, volunteers, service users and organisations

Essential Criteria
•Clean driving licence and experience of driving larger vehicles
•Experience of community engagement or working with older people
•Excellent communication skills
