We are recruiting male Residential Care Practitioners to work with a young person who requires positive male role models, consistent boundaries, and emotionally safe care.
At Illuminate Care Group, Jake (Name changed, to protect identity) lives in a home supported by a small, consistent team of male practitioners who back each other, communicate clearly, and keep things calm — even when days are tough.
What a Shift Actually Looks Like
You might be:
Cooking tea together (Jake’s judging your chopping skills)
Going for a walk to burn off big feelings
Holding a firm boundary — calmly, respectfully
Laughing. A lot more than you’d expect.
This isn’t about “controlling behaviour”. It’s about building trust through consistency.
Jake’s care plan identifies the need for:
Appropriate male role models
Support with identity, boundaries, and emotional regulation
Dignity and safeguarding during crisis support
This restriction is lawful, proportionate, and essential to meeting the young person’s assessed needs.
This post is restricted to male applicants only under a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) in accordance with Schedule 9, Equality Act 2010, due to the needs of the young person we support.
Who Fits This Role?
You don’t need to be perfect.
But you do need:
Emotional resilience
The ability to stay calm under pressure
Confidence holding boundaries without aggression
A sense of humour
The willingness to learn, reflect, and grow
You’ll need basic IT skills for record keeping and reports.
A driving licence is helpful but not essential.
Training, Safety & Physical Requirements
You’ll be trained in:
Trauma-responsive care
Love-Led Care
Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
You must be physically fit enough to:
Safely support young people during crisis situations
Take part in physical interventions only when necessary, always as a last resort and fully in line with safeguarding legislation
Your safety matters just as much as the child’s.
Pay & Progression
- Level 1 (Unqualified): £28,000
- Level 2 (Qualified): £29,000
- Level 3 (Senior): £32,000 – £34,000
Plus:
£60 sleep-in payment and additional benefits for waking nights.
Mileage paid at 45p per mile
No experience? No problem.
We’ll support you through the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, with real progression routes.
The Team You’re Joining
You’ll be one of three male practitioners supporting one young person on each shift rotation. Shifts are varied and we are seeking to cover Days, waking nights, and sleep ins.
That means:
No chaotic staffing
No being left to cope alone
Clear communication
Strong leadership
A proper team culture
