Summary
We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Newport to assist with the appointment of a Refuse Driver on a 9-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary:
The Refuse Driver (Grade 4) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of specialized refuse collection vehicles. This role is essential to maintaining the cleanliness and public health of Newport by ensuring the timely collection and disposal of waste and recycling. Operating within Building Services & Maintenance, the driver provides a visible, front-line service to the community, requiring a high level of professionalism, physical fitness, and strict adherence to health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities:
Drive and operate heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and specialized refuse collection equipment in a safe and responsible manner through residential and commercial areas.
Assist the loading crew in the collection of domestic, commercial, or clinical waste and recycling as required.
Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensuring the safety of the collection crew and the general public during maneuvers.
Act as a representative of Newport City Council, dealing with residents' enquiries or complaints in a polite and helpful manner.
Maintain accurate records of waste collected, tip weights, and any incidents or missed collections using on-board technology or manual logs.
Ensure safe tipping of waste at designated disposal sites, following all site-specific safety protocols.
Qualifications:
A valid UK Category C (Class 2) LGV/HGV driving license is essential.
A valid Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
Possession of a valid Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
Essentials:
Proven experience driving large vehicles, ideally within a refuse or recycling environment or a similar high-frequency stop-start operation.
Familiarity with the operation of hydraulic lifting equipment and refuse compaction mechanisms.
A strong understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act and dynamic risk assessment in a public environment.
