Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Events Development Officer to join our Events Development team.

The Events team supports organisers of public events, which apply to host events on North Somerset Council operated open spaces. Public events help to boost the local economy by attracting residents and visitors; raise the area’s profile; help to create jobs; support community spirit; improve mental and physical wellbeing; provide platforms for culture, education and fitness and most of all, offer fun experiences.

Public events across North Somerset are organised by community, voluntary and professional groups and organisations, so the level of support required varies. The Council has a smart process from initial enquiry; to support organisers to provide required paperwork to appropriate standards, to consulting specialist advisors within the council and emergency service partners, to checking and providing feedback, right through to post event debrief. Every event, and every site is different, so flexibility and critical thinking are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
• In this role, you will undertake technical assessments of events organisers’ paperwork and processes and use critical thinking to select the correct process to follow.
• You will follow the agreed process, building up and maintaining a good knowledge of processes, regulations and policies to support your work.
• You will use excellent communication skills to inform and advise organisers and engage internal and external stakeholders in the events process.
• You will support organisers to develop the scope and range of events to meet the Council’s corporate aims, and Economic and Placemaking objectives.
• You will carry out financial transactions, research and report writing when required.
• You will also have the confidence to suggest process or service changes when appropriate.

Full training will be provided on the processes and online software which the team uses daily

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about public events in outdoor spaces and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria:
• Vocational qualification or experience equivalent to Level 4 or above in a similar role in public outdoor events, or a role with transferable skills as outlined below.
• Experience in a paid role with similar responsibilities to follow a prescribed process, use critical thinking to determine the path, adhere to policy, regulations and technical requirements.
• Proven ability to build and maintain high level of knowledge relating to a similar industry.
• Proven ability to make self-reliant business decisions and work comfortably as part of a small team, and with a line manager to escalate issues or concerns appropriately.
• Proven ability to critically analyse information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders with professionalism, clarity and confidence.
• Excellent organisational skills, including managing own workload (even when under pressure), and excellent record keeping.
• Ability to visit events and sites and attend meetings in person, when required across North Somerset.
