Highfields College is a Pupil Referral Unit for Y7 to Y11 students who have been, or are at risk of being, excluded from mainstream schools. Many of the students are expected to stay at Highfields for two/three terms, then return to a mainstream school or transfer to a specialist provision.
Our aim is to re-engage students in education, enabling them to return to school or to move on to successful post 16 placements. Often the education packages are personalised to suit individual needs and include a variety of other interventions as part of a full wrap around service.
Highfields College seeks a resilient, adaptable Classroom Teacher to join our team. Initially based in KS3 Nurture, you will provide trauma-informed support to help vulnerable students thrive academically and emotionally.
As student cohorts change, you must be willing to be deployed across other departments or key stages. We need a flexible educator dedicated to transforming lives through a therapeutic, high-impact approach.
A strong commitment to raising achievement and standards is required, along with an informed, innovative and enthusiastic approach to curriculum delivery. We would welcome applications from teachers who have been trained to teach in primary schools as well as secondary. Non-specialists welcome. NQT’s welcome to apply.
Strong interpersonal skills, resilience and a positive mind-set are also essential as the post involves working with disengaged learners learners who can offer a lot but require cajoling and coaching, with some planning to meet specific learning needs.
We offer:
Small class sizes of 4 10 and the opportunity to get to know students well
Supportive and committed colleagues
An opportunity to broaden your teaching experience in a specialist field
A school that will actively support you in developing your career
The school is committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of students and expects staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undergo appropriate child protection screening including a DBS check.
Applications should be sent to Susan Ryan, Business Manager: susan.ryan@highfieldscollege.org.uk
