They help set up clinic rooms, ensure equipment is clean and ready for use, and manage stock levels for consumables. They provide reassurance and basic health information to patients, signposting them to appropriate resources when needed. Administrative tasks may include updating electronic patient records, booking follow-up appointments, and supporting the flow of clinics by liaising with reception and nursing teams. Infection control is a key responsibility, including cleaning clinical areas between patients and adhering to hygiene protocols. HCAs also assist with minor procedures, such as coil fittings or biopsies, by preparing instruments and supporting the clinician. Overall, the role requires excellent communication, empathy, and teamwork to deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate care in a busy outpatient environment.
