We are seeking a motivated and adaptable Electrical Craftsperson to join our Estates Team at the Bedford Hospital. The role involves carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance across a wide range of building services and equipment. Participation in the on‑call rota and the ability to work overtime are essential requirements. Please note that, due to on‑call commitments, you must live within 30 minutes of the site.
Our Maintenance Team—covering electrical, mechanical and building trades—is responsible for maintaining the Trust’s properties and equipment. We are a customer‑focused department committed to delivering a high‑quality service, with teamwork, respect and integrity at the heart of everything we do.
While we offer strong learning and development support, you will need to bring key skills and experience to succeed in this role, including:
• Time‑served electrician (or equivalent experience)
• A recognised qualification in a relevant electrical discipline
• Solid experience within maintenance or service industries

• Identify, diagnose and repair faults, and carry out general planned maintenance on electrical services, plant and equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, steam‑raising plant, air‑conditioning and ventilation systems, heating systems, water and drainage systems, macerators, catering equipment, hydrotherapy pool systems and ward equipment.
• Undertake both reactive and planned maintenance of a more complex nature within the building engineering services relevant to the post holder’s core electrical skill.
• Complete all mandatory training as required.
• Carry out installations, commissioning and testing of new work associated with the core electrical discipline, and support team members when tasks involve other trades.
• Liaise with clinical staff to coordinate equipment and plant shutdowns and to arrange maintenance activities.
