Summary
In this role, you will be required to ensure the collection of household waste and recycling using wheeled bins, sacks or other collection systems. To be responsible for the allocated vehicle (undertaking daily checks, applying defect reporting procedures, cleaning, fuelling etc); contribution to the completion of the service’s allocated work (including rectifying missed collections and completing assisted collections), motivating and organising the collection crew; completion of required paperwork (such as lock out sheets) and working in accordance with the Company’s values, beliefs, priorities, policies, procedures and objectives. Act as a loader as and when required.

About the Role:
• To ensure the collection of household waste and recycling using wheeled bins, sacks or other collection systems. To be responsible for the allocated vehicle (undertaking daily checks, applying defect reporting procedures, cleaning, fuelling etc); contribution to the completion of the service’s allocated work (including rectifying missed collections and completing assisted collections), motivating and organising the collection crew; completion of required paperwork (such as lock out sheets) and working in accordance with the Council’s values, beliefs, priorities, policies, procedures and objectives. Act as a loader as and when required.

About you:
• Appropriate HGV licence for the vehicle they are driving
Up to date Driver CPC
• Driving experience of the type of vehicles within the authority’s fleet
Experience of supervising and coaching others
• Knowledge of recycling and waste minimisation. Broad knowledge of Council Services and the ability to effectively signpost Service Users to other Services
Knowledge of waste collection & tipping techniques including knowledge of vehicle capacity and requirement to carry a safe load
• Knowledge of applicable working procedures such as Health & Safety, customer service standards, HR policy
High level of Health & Safety knowledge – Eg. first aid
• Training on use of vehicle hoist and other associated equipment
• The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post
