Summary

Supply SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH Specialist)

Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex

Pay: Up to £95 per day

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Contract: Supply / Temporary

Are you a resilient and empathetic individual looking to support young people with complex needs? We are urgently seeking an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our specialist team in Haywards Heath.

With an immediate start available, this role is perfect for a dedicated professional who understands that behaviour is communication. You will be working in a specialist environment designed to help pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs find their path back to successful learning.

The Role

In this specialist capacity, you will act as a mentor and a calming presence. Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Emotional Regulation: Using trauma-informed approaches to help pupils manage their emotions and return to a state of calm.

  • 1:1 Mentoring: Building deep rapport with specific pupils to help them navigate social hurdles and curriculum demands.

  • Classroom Support: Assisting the class teacher in delivering tailored activities that meet sensory and cognitive needs.

  • Safe Environments: Maintaining a secure, nurturing, and engaging classroom atmosphere.

What We Are Looking For

  • SEMH Experience: Essential experience supporting pupils with SEMH or complex behavioural needs.

  • Resilience: A calm, patient nature and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations effectively.

  • Immediate Availability: Ready to start work straight away in the Haywards Heath area.

  • Commitment: A passion for inclusive education and a "child-first" approach.
