Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen within Northumbria Primary Care for an increase in our Band 4 Registered Pharmacy Technician teams, supporting a group of GP practices within a neighbourhood footprint.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive primary care medicines management system acting on current best practice. The Pharmacy Technician will be required to undertake activities predominantly within practice, but will need to be flexible to work to the wider demands of the network.

This role forms part of a career progression pathway and could lead to the completion of a CPPE qualification and into a Senior Pharmacy Technician post (training and budget dependant).

This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

The role will contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supply, actioning of discharge summary medication changes, liaising with care homes regarding prescription queries and supporting the organisation move towards online prescription services. An understanding of primary care operations and use of SystmOne would be an advantage but is not essential.

To work under the management Pharmacists, Executive GP's and practice Managers within a Neighbourhood footprint delivering a comprehensive medicines management service. Ensuring a safe and efficient service is maintained, delivering a range of medicines management activities including medicines reconciliation and repeat prescription requests

To liaise with pharmacy staff in all sectors and other healthcare professionals to ensure a patient orientated medicines management service is provided, conducting medicines reviews for patients identified by the wider multidisciplinary team or from other medicines management initiatives.

To work closely with the Clinical Pharmacists & GP's to adopt a team approach to medicines management, acting as a key member of the multidisciplinary team and the wider pharmacy team, providing medicines management advice to healthcare professionals, patients and carers.

To work with the Clinical Pharmacists & GP's to develop and undertake medicines management audits, to support discussion within the practice and agree subsequent actions.

To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within Northumbria Primary Care. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
