Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a University Archivist to join the Aston University Archives team and play a key role in preserving, developing, and promoting the University’s institutional memory and legacy.

You will be responsible for the acquisition, appraisal, cataloguing, preservation, and accessibility of a wide range of physical and digital archival collections. Working to professional archival standards, you will support internal and external researchers, contribute to digitisation projects, and help ensure the long-term stewardship and discoverability of the University’s records. You will also support teaching, research, marketing, and public engagement activities through exhibitions, tours, and outreach events.

Working closely with colleagues across the University, as well as with alumni, donors, and external partners, you will help develop and review archival policies and workflows, provide guidance and training to staff, students, and volunteers, and contribute to projects that enhance access to and engagement with the archives.

You will be qualified to postgraduate level in Archives and Records Management and have experience of applying archival standards and best practice, including cataloguing archival collections. You will have strong organisational and research skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with relevant legislation. Experience of digitisation, preservation, exhibitions, or public engagement activities would be an advantage.
