Summary
We require: 2 people, applying as a team, with own car and a cover letter/message
We are seeking a couple or two friends/family happy to share one bedroom accommodation. WE REGRET WE CAN NOT ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM SOLO APPLICANTS due to our limited staff accommodation.
This is a seasonal contract from 16th March 2026 until 4th November 2026.
One person will be contracted for 42 hours per week and the other for 30 hours per week with the possibility of additional hours as and when required.
Working hours are between 7am and 10.30pm (other than a very occasional later finish after a wedding), worked on a rota with the castle manager couple. You will need to be happy working split shifts for up to 4 days a week. On the managers' day off you will be required to cover a long day from 7am until 10.30pm (with breaks). You will share the duty manger overnight emergency phone, with the managers, for 1 or 2 nights each per week and may be required to respond in the unlikely event of an emergency call.
Time off is one full day together, plus 2 half days each per week. We are a small team and you should be happy to multi task within the business, working both together and independently.
The pay is calculated at £13.20 per hour, giving a monthly salary of £2402.40 for person one and £1716.00 for person two. Person 2 may be asked to work for a further 12 hours per week, @ £13.20 per hour, depending on the needs of the business. Occasionally when we are hosting a wedding you may work slightly more hours one week which will be repaid by time off in lieu the previous or following week.
Free accommodation in a fully equipped, beautiful 1 bedroom apartment (king size double bed), en-suite bathroom with bath and shower and own kitchen/living room. Utilities, Wifi and Council Tax included. One pet welcome. Generous tip share and 50p commission on bar drinks sold. This is a great seasonal opportunity to work hard and save, as living costs other than food and personal items are paid. Barcaldine Castle is a well-established, luxury bed and breakfast, exclusive use hire and small weddings business, situated in a stunning rural location, 9 miles north of Oban. The castle has 6 stylish en-suite guest bedrooms, personally furnished with antiques and high quality designer soft furnishings. Whilst the property retains its historic features, there are 21st century comforts throughout and we operate to 5 star standards.
Duties include cleaning and servicing of guest bedrooms/bathrooms and public areas, laundry, stock management, assisting the Managers with welcoming guests, breakfast cooking and service, duty management cover, working in our small residents’ bar, serving at weddings and events, occasional shopping and maintenance tasks. 25 hours per week each will be hands on housekeeping, so please only apply if you would be happy with that. Ideally the successful applicants will have some experience with computerised reservation systems. Training will also be given. Our booking system is Q book.
The role involves carrying laundry and stock up and down a spiral staircase, so applicants should be physically fit.
DRIVERS WITH OWN TRANSPORT ESSENTIAL (we are a 45 minute walk to the nearest shop/bus stop. Mileage will be paid for any use of own vehicle ie to collect groceries). Housekeeping/customer service experience and the right to work in the UK essential. We regret we are unable to offer sponsorship. References will be required.
