Summary

• The post holder will be responsible for managing and overseeing the provision of a high-quality obstetric ultrasound service.
• The post holder will combine hands-on clinical scanning with leadership, mentoring, and service oversight.
• The post holder will ensure scanning protocols and reporting standards reflect best practice and research, while supporting the sonography team in delivering scans and managing unexpected clinical findings.
• The post holder in addition to their clinical responsibilities, will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations in the obstetric ultrasound department and work closely with the Ultrasound Manager.
• The post holder will will ensure full compliance with local and national standards/protocols, lead on internal audits and service improvements.

The post holder will act as a Clinical Lead Sonographer for Obstetric Ultrasound and will be responsible for managing and upholding a safe and effective imaging service within the Obstetric Ultrasound Department. They will undertake both clinical duties and managerial duties and work closely with the Ultrasound Manager to ensure safe staffing and staff rotation.

They will provide regular feedback to the General Manager Radiology on compliance with key performance indicators for this service and will provide supervision and specialist advice and expertise to the ultrasound team of Sonographers and students, in addition to the wider multidisciplinary team. They will ensure all aspects of clinical governance are delivered and monitored including being responsible for the Screening Support Sonographer duties and leading regular peer review audits.

They will liaise with the Ultrasound Manager and Professional Lead to ensure effective plans are in place for any learning needs identified. They will also actively develop the service in conjunction with the Fetal Medicine Unit (FMU), national and local NHS guidelines and directives to ensure that staff promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals.
