Summary

We are seeking to appoint one Senior Clinical Fellow / Registrar in Medical Microbiology to work primarily within the Medical Microbiology Service at the Royal Free Hospital. This is a fixed-term post for 6 months, with a planned start date of 4 March 2026.

The post sits within a large, integrated Department of Infection, delivering specialist services across Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Virology, and HIV. The successful applicant will contribute predominantly to clinical microbiology services, including provision of senior microbiology advice, laboratory liaison, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection management across the Trust.

In addition to core microbiology duties, the post holder will provide cross-cover support to Infectious Diseases and Virology, including participation in inpatient ward work and multidisciplinary infection services. The role offers exposure to complex and specialist infection services, including tuberculosis, chronic infection management, and the jointly delivered Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service.

The post participates in a combined infection on-call rota and provides strong opportunities for teaching, audit, quality improvement, and research, including involvement in the UCL Medical School undergraduate teaching programme. The role is well suited to doctors pursuing further training or senior clinical experience in Medical Microbiology within a tertiary NHS teaching hospital.
