February 2026 start.
£26-31k p/a depending on experience and qualifications (+ Training package).

Adventure Sunderland are seeking to recruit an experienced Instructor to join us at our modern and well-equipped activity centre on the sea front at Roker. We are a Registered Charity offering a large range of traditional adventurous activities with the River Wear on our doorstep, as well as the North Sea. We offer kayaking, Canoeing, Stand up paddleboards, Raft building, Surfing, Climbing, Archery, Coasteering and many more activities.

The ideal candidate will have the following:
• A passion for Outdoor Activities, introducing, and developing others.
• Experience working with groups of all types from young children, school and youth groups through to adults. As well as from varying backgrounds and with various ability levels.
• A desire to develop their personal abilities and range of qualifications.
• Positive and flexible approach to work
• Excellent customer service skills
• Calm under pressure, with a proactive approach to running sessions in varied and changing environments.


Qualifications –
• A minimum of a BC level 2 Instructor or Touring Leader award.
• Valid First Aid certificate.
• Preferably, hold either CWA, CWI, or equivalent.

Ideally one or more of these qualifications are desirable:
• Archery Instructor(GNAS) and/or NRSA
• Leadership award in Sea kayak/ Surf/ Canoe/ WW kayak
• SUP DSM or equivalent
• ML Summer, WGL, or equivalent.
• D1+E

This post will include flexible hours. With sessions running on evenings and weekends.

Job Role:
• Reporting to the Centre Manger to work with individuals and groups delivering water based and land based activities.
• To assist in the operation of the centre including staffing reception, maintenance of equipment, dealing with enquires, and the general maintenance of the centre.
• To foster relationships with and develop long-term clients.
• To promote Adventure Sunderland to clients and the public encouraging new participants to use the centre.
