Summary

To be competent and confident in all areas of midwifery practice and act as an expert specialist resource in perinatal pelvic health, offering highly specialist advice to other midwives and medical staff. To support the development and implementation of PPHS within the organisation working with colleagues across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate LMNS Project manage implementation and delivery of the PPHS service To work closely with womens physiotherapy services in the trust to deliver high quality, women centred Perinatal Pelvic Health Services To implement and provide specialist evidence-based care for women with childbirth related perineal trauma, OASI and pregnancy related bladder/bowel dysfunction. To act as a significant educational resource to health professionals in childbirth related perineal trauma, OASI and pregnancy related bladder/bowel dysfunction. To deliver pelvic health and perineal repair training for qualified midwives. To liaise with womens health physiotherapists in providing training to midwives on pelvic floor muscle exercises in order that they can deliver appropriate preventive antenatal education for the women that they care for To lead in the development and promotion of Trust / National guidelines and protocols for women requiring perineal suturing and bladder care and OASI, adopting a multi professional approach. To improve governance, patient safety and continuity of care in women with obstetric pelvic floor injury To audit organisational performance and support associated action plans to address areas for improvement Present audit findings and service evaluations to relevant Trust and LMNS groups Challenge and escalate poor care, performance and complacency To promote education within maternity services to continue to improve intrapartum and postpartum perineal and bladder care, and to support further reduction in rates of perinatal pelvic health problems To work with and support the Obstetric team in the OASI/Perineal Urogynaecology service and to make contribution to the strategic direction of the OASI and perineal trauma service To work collaboratively with other professional providing care on the perinatal pathway including Midwives, Health Visitors, Physiotherapists, incontinence Nurses, gynaecology, colorectal and urogynaecology services. Provide a visible clinical leadership presence within the Trust and the wider LMNS PPHS network. Support improvements in and development of maternity services, to improve the experience for women, their families, and staff. Liaise with other agencies and professions, participating in multi-agency meetings to facilitate ongoing treatment and care. To collaborate with the Obstetric team in the development of care plans for women and birthing people with pelvic floor dysfunction Work with colleagues to ensure that women and their families receive appropriate information about pelvic health in a sensitive way Encourage a culture of trust and sensitive enquiry which supports disclosure of symptoms Understand the relationship between physical health and mental health and the wider impact on family and relationships, ensuring all needs are supported. Maintain a professional appearance in line with the Trust dress code To work in accordance with the NMC Rules and Code for nurses and midwives Uphold the Trusts values and behaviours and behave in a manner fitting with the responsible position of the post holder, maintaining the public confidence Maintain professional and courteous working relationships with staff and respect the equality and diversity of each and every person he/she comes into contact with in the course of his/her business Uphold the privacy and dignity of the patient and respect the equality of patients at all time To monitor professional practice within the clinical area, ensuring provision of the highest standard of care, developing and strengthening Midwifery roles where appropriate To provide midwifery leadership, advice and support midwives employed within the Trust To provide a clinical presence on the unit, being responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards To promote a positive learning environment where lessons are learnt and changes implemented to ensure delivery of a quality service. Actively participate in resolving issues and complaints at a local level, and where required support complaint response writing
