Do you have experience working with SEMH, SEBD, ASD or challenging behaviour? Have you covered lessons, supported small groups, or worked within an alternative or special needs setting? If so, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

About the School

This specialist SEMH school in West Drayton supports children and young people who have been excluded, or are at risk of exclusion, from mainstream education. The school has an outstanding reputation internationally for its expertise in special education, innovative curriculum and high-quality resources.

The school is committed to providing a safe, stable and nurturing learning environment, where every young person is supported to succeed through highly personalised education plans.

The Role

As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant / Behaviour Mentor, you will work with pupils across Key Stages 1–5, predominantly secondary-aged students with SEMH and SEBD needs. Some students are highly academic but require additional behavioural and emotional support.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils with complex emotional and behavioural needs

Building positive, trusting relationships with students and staff

Managing challenging behaviour effectively and consistently

Covering lessons and supporting teaching when required

Working closely with classroom teachers to adapt activities to meet individual needs

Supporting pupils through individual education and behaviour plans

Assessing pupils with short- and long-term learning difficulties

Liaising with external professionals such as social workers, therapists and educational psychologists

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

Experience working with SEMH, EBD/SEBD, ASD or mental health needs

Strong behaviour management skills (Team Teach or MAPA desirable)

Experience working within a SEN or alternative provision setting

Experience supporting or teaching primary or secondary-aged pupils

The ability to cover or support a range of subjects

A current Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service

A calm, resilient and empathetic approach

What the School Offers

A committed, supportive and enthusiastic staff team

High-quality professional development opportunities

A positive, purposeful and inclusive learning environment

The opportunity to make a genuine difference to pupils’ lives

A full-time, long-term role with the potential to become permanent

This is a highly rewarding role that offers valuable experience and would be an excellent addition to your CV if you are passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
