Your new company
A local authority in the Birmingham/West Midlands area is seeking an experienced Housing Disrepair Lawyer to join on a 3-month rolling contract (with the project expected to run for 12-24 months). This is an opportunity to work on a high-volume caseload within a busy legal team, supporting the authority in managing housing condition claims and related litigation.
Your new role
You will handle the full lifecycle of housing disrepair claims, including:
- Managing a large caseload (up to 100 files)
- Advising on housing conditions, disrepair, and pre-action protocol matters
- Conducting civil litigation, including defence and counterclaims
- Drafting and negotiating settlements independently
- Attending court hearings for applications (typically once per week or every other week)
This role requires someone who can hit the ground running and work with minimal supervision.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- Minimum 12 months' experience in housing disrepair litigation
- Strong civil litigation background
- Ability to manage high-volume caseloads and work independently
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Experience in local authority work is preferred, but candidates from other backgrounds will be considered.
