Summary

Supporting Clinical Excellence Assisting and contributing to the management and organisation of a ward / clinical area. Once competent in team management skills, takes charge of the clinical area on a regular basis in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility or his/her deputy. Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care. Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. Be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care ensuring that these are evaluated and amended as appropriate. Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines. Co-ordinate the patients discharge arrangements in accordance with NGH discharge policy and processes. Plan, develop and implement approaches to promote health and wellbeing of patients and improve their health status. Document the condition and progress of patients and report to medical staff and/or senior nursing staff any areas of concern. Maintain contemporary detailed nursing documentation. Actively maintain a safe ward environment. Comply with all Trust policies and risk assessments regarding the policies and procedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety. Responsible for safe supply, storage, administration, checking and disposal of medications including controlled drugs in line with Trust Policy and Nursing Midwifery Council standards. Maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently. To be responsible for your own professional development, maintain a professional portfolio and keep up to date on current nursing and health service issues. To take full responsibility for your own actions and abide by the NMC Code of Conduct 2015. To revalidate with NMC in line with governing body requirements. Maintain own knowledge and clinical skills demonstrating competence in delivering a high standard of care. Supervising the assessing, planning implementation and evaluation of patient care, thus providing high standard of patient care at all times. To successfully complete and maintain Band 5 competencies and demonstrate compliance through annual appraisal. Demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skills to manage infection prevention principles, including the use of personal protective equipment. Promote a healthy, positive and safe environment for patients and staff. assisting the manager in facilitating the teaching, mentoring and assessment of staff and other disciplines. Ensure that nursing practice reflects current clinical development and is based on sound evidence. Provide skilled assistance in all areas of endoscopy. Undertake nurse - led discharge following locally agreed guidelines and protocols. Participate in the on-call service for out of hours emergency endoscopy. Assist in the delivery of the Bowel screening Programme. Participate in pre operative assessments of patients. Be an active and approachable role model. Have a smart appearance, hence adhering to the trust's uniform policy. Demonstrates a caring and supportive attitude towards their work colleagues. Uphold the trust's vision and values.
