Job description / Purpose of the Role:

Reporting to the Production Supervisor , you will lead the Mechanical team to fabricate, machine, assemble and align rotating machinery designed for use in our bespoke engine, drive-train, or component test systems.

This is a hands on team leader role working as part of the team to produce parts and assemblies to meet the production plan aiding workflow through the department.

Support the in-house quality assurance procedures by ensuring all work is checked and internal standards are clearly defined and understood by the team.

Identify and implement improvement opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency of the department.

Support the skill development of the mechanical team including apprentices.

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Read & interpret Bill of Materials, technical drawings, and mechanical parts operation to support and guide the Mechanical Manufacturing team (fabrication, fitting & machining).

Support the team with mechanical fitting and / or welding tasks as required for the production plan.

Ensure all projects are delivered by the team to the highest possible standards and in a timely fashion.

Work with the Production Supervisor to agree work allocation amongst the team.

Check the build quality of work being produced by the team and agree build standards for the department.

Ensure all problems and errors are reported using the company's ISO change control procedure suggesting changes as appropriate.
Support the team by addressing problems / issues that can be resolved within the department.

Identify opportunities for improving efficiency and productivity for the team and individuals.

Manage floor stock levels including welding gas to ensure consumables are available for the build process
Ensure any rework that is required is prioritised and completed in a timely manner.

Conduct performance appraisals of team members.
Provide skills training to staff as required.

Personal Characteristics & Skills

Be able to interpret mechanical drawings
Have a high level of technical expertise, knowledge, experience and understanding of mechanical fitting and / or welding activities.

Proficiency in working with rotating machinery and have knowledge of alignment and balancing techniques.

Be able to maintain a safe environment for the team to work in.
Methodical & have good attention to detail.

Be decisive and able to prioritise tasks and activities.

Have a positive attitude and be able to motivate the team to deliver a high standard of work.

Have the desire to learn and improve both their own performance and the team's performance.

Have good problem-solving skills.

Have good communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with other departments within the company.

Be able to justify equipment purchases for the department.

Maintain good paperwork and digital records for the department.
