Summary

Nuclear Medicine is an area of imaging that looks at physiological changes in the body. The nursing role includes the safe handling and administration of radioactive isotopes to adults and children. This is both an inpatient and outpatient service and we also have a cancer treatment service for thyroid cancers, and Lutetium therapy for neuroendocrine tumours. We are a small nursing group with a varied multidisciplinary team which work closely together to give the best patient care/experience. We currently carry out around 40 different studies, and see approximately 8000 patients a year. The post holder would require some knowledge of studies carried out in Nuclear Medicine, in-house training available to increase knowledge of varied investigations. They would require essential cannulation skills. They would also have to be competent in the safe handling and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and possess an understanding of legislative requirements surrounding the use of ionising radiation.
