What skills and experience we're looking for
Assistant Headteacher: Special Education Needs Co-ordinator, DSL and pastoral support leader
Working in a high-performing school, and as a member of our senior team, you will work closely with and report to our Deputy, the Inclusion leader. As the school’s SENCO, you will ensure our mainstream SEND pupils achieve excellence in both their academic and personal development. You will also be responsible for supporting our staff as our behaviour leader, so that pupils continue to show outstanding behaviour and attitudes to learning. In addition, you will be one of our designated senior leaders for safeguarding, helping to maintain our strong culture of safeguarding and playing a leading role in promoting our pupils’ well-being.
You will already have had successes in school management. As a member of our senior team, you will work alongside an experienced team of senior leaders, reporting to the DHT, to help shape the school’s strategic development. You will have a successful primary teaching experience and draw on this to support you in this role.
The applicant should either have the appropriate National Award certification or be committed to working towards gaining this qualification.
What the school offers its staff
Aston Tower is a two-form entry multi-cultural school that serves a community which values and supports our work. The school had a highly successful Ofsted inspection in October 2024 which judged the school to have improved to an ‘outstanding’ level. The school offers specialist support to pupils with Special Educational Needs through our Department for Education (DfE) approved Resource Base that caters for 16 pupils with autism. We have friendly, responsive and enthusiastic children whose attitudes to learning were described as ‘excellent’ by Ofsted, along with their outstanding behaviour. Our staff team is skilled, caring, and committed; trustees are keen to be involved and highly supportive. The school is very well-resourced in well-kept modern premises set in spacious grounds.
