Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivatedClinical Neuropsychologist (Band 8a)to join a multidisciplinary team within thestroke rehabilitation servicesin the London Borough of Barnet. The successful candidate will provide specialized psychological services to individuals living with stroke and other long-term health conditions, helping them manage the complex physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges that arise following a stroke.
Key responsibilities include conducting neuropsychological assessmentsand providing therapeutic interventions for patients within theEdgware Community Rehabilitation Unitand community stroke services (including Early Stroke Discharge Team&Barnet Stroke Support Service). The post holder will support patients with a range of complex needs—physical, psychological, cognitive, and social—ensuring their care is holistic and tailored to enhance their recovery and long-term wellbeing.
You will take the lead in delivering community-based psychological and neuropsychological interventions, includingassessment, formulation, therapy, and discharge planning. You will collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to integrate psychological care within broader treatment plans, helping promote health, independence, and optimal recovery outcomes for stroke patients.
Additionally, you will provideconsultation, advice, and supervisionto other professionals in the team, enhancing the psychological care approach within the wider service.
• Work as part of the integrated team for Barnet Inpatients and Stroke Services (Early Stroke Discharge team, Barnet Stroke Support Service, Edgware Community Rehabilitation Unit)
• Work independently and autonomously as a professional within the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) guidelines and local Trust policies
• To select and administer specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessments
• To undertake risk assessment and risk management, and provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultations to patients, their families and carers, and other multidisciplinary professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulations, diagnosis, treatment plan, management and care.
• To formulate and deliver evidence-based psychological treatments within the service
• To maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation, ensure documents are updated to reflect changes in clinical needs in-line with trust policy, and to adhere to the HSPC code of conduct for Psychologists and the principles of professional practice
• To motivate/ negotiate with patients to change their lifestyle/ behaviour using psychological knowledge of behaviour change, together with the application of specialist clinical skills in engagement and motivation
The role will involve significant patient-facing work, with at least 80% of your time dedicated to direct clinical care

• Collaborate and Communicate: Use various communication methods (face-to-face, video, email, phone) to coordinate patient care, share information, and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, service users, and MDTs across trusts. Attend and contribute to team meetings and service MDT discussions.
• Service Development and Consultation: Produce annual reports and audits on psychological services, offering recommendations for practice development. Provide expert advice and consultation, contributing to a psychologically informed framework of care across all settings and services, and take responsibility for coordinating care plans for patients accessing multiple services.
• Supervision, Training, and Research: Manage workloads of assistant and trainee psychologists, support volunteer involvement, and deliver psycho-educational training to staff, patients, and carers. Engage in CPD, research, and quality improvement projects, ensuring ongoing professional development in clinical neuropsychology.
