Sociable Personal Assistant (Support Worker) – 10 Hours per Week Reference: MB-DCC-001.
We are seeking a warm, reliable and engaging Personal Assistant to provide social and practical support to an adult with ADHD and executive dysfunction. This role would suit someone who is naturally sociable, patient, kind and emotionally intelligent, with a good sense of humour and a genuine interest in supporting someone to live an active, creative and socially connected life.
The successful candidate will be able to build a trusting, respectful relationship, understand neurodivergent needs, and provide encouragement without pressure. You will bring calm, positivity and flexibility, helping the individual feel confident, supported and able to enjoy activities that matter to them.
An interest in the arts, culture, and creative or social activities is highly desirable, as the role focuses on enabling participation in social, artistic and community-based experiences.
• Provide one-to-one social support to encourage participation in community, cultural, artistic and social activities
• Accompany the individual to social outings such as cafés, meals, events, exhibitions, workshops or creative activities
• Offer gentle structure and prompts to support executive functioning (e.g. planning, time awareness, preparation for outings)
• Support confidence-building in social situations, respecting sensory needs, energy levels and personal boundaries
• Help reduce anxiety around transitions, new environments or unfamiliar situations through reassurance and clear communication
• Encourage independence while providing appropriate support, adapting your approach to suit changing needs
• Maintain a positive, non-judgemental and person-centred approach at all times
The purpose of this role is to support the individual to enjoy a rich, active and fulfilling social and artistic life, helping them feel confident, included and empowered within their community.
Skills, Experience and Qualities
Essential:
• Experience supporting or working with neurodivergent individuals, particularly those with ADHD and/or autism
• A patient, empathetic and flexible approach
• Strong communication and listening skills
• Ability to provide support that is encouraging rather than directive
• Reliability, discretion and respect for confidentiality
Desirable:
• Understanding of executive dysfunction and how it affects daily life and social engagement
• Interest or background in the arts, creative activities, culture or community engagement
• Experience in a support worker, PA, care, education, youth work or similar role
Personal Attributes
• Friendly, approachable and emotionally aware
• Calm under pressure and able to adapt plans when needed
• Positive, encouraging and supportive
• Comfortable working one-to-one and building a professional but warm relationship
The person seeking PA support is an incredibly social and outgoing individual with a wide range of hobbies and interests. They love taking part in creative activities, such as attending art classes. They’re also an active member of a drama group and this year they are performing in the pantomime! Alongside their creative hobbies, they have a strong interest in current affairs and like to stay well-informed about what’s happening in the world. Their enthusiasm for art, culture, and conversation makes them a warm and engaging person to support.
